Excel Basics

This course will introduce the basics of Excel. Students will learn how to create spreadsheets, manipulate data, use functions, create formulas and charts. No prior knowledge is required.

Session 1 (getting started, simple calculations)

  • Familiarity with Excel (layout, terminology, helpful features)
  • Entering data
  • Simple Excel calculations
  • Introduction to Excel functions
  • Formatting cells
  • Working with rows and columns
  • Copy and paste
  • Printing
  • Saving and retrieving your work

Session 2 (dealing with more data)

  • Sorting data
  • Filtering data
  • Row and column calculations
  • Working efficiently with bigger spreadsheets
  • More Excel functions
  • Introduction to Excel charts
  • Using Excel results in Microsoft Word (if time permits)

Session 3 (a little bit beyond the basics with Excel)

  • More on Excel charts
  • Pivot tables and pivot charts
  • Useful tips and tricks with Excel
