Group Assignments & Projects

Group assignments and projects are a common part of university life. Working effectively in a team can deepen your learning, build essential skills, and prepare you for the collaborative nature of the workplace. But successful group work doesn’t happen automatically; it requires planning, communication, and strategies to overcome challenges.

In this workshop, we’ll explore what makes group projects work well, why they matter, and how to navigate common pitfalls. You’ll learn practical techniques to ensure your group experience is productive, fair, and rewarding.

In this workshop we will:

  • Define effective group work and distinguish it from simple task-sharing.
  • Discuss when collaboration adds value and how to make the most of it in academic settings.
  • Identify roles and responsibilities within a group and strategies for fair workload distribution.
  • Examine criteria for successful group projects, including communication, accountability, and shared goals.
  • Learn strategies for managing challenges, such as conflict, uneven participation, and time constraints.
  • Explore tools and methods for organizing tasks, tracking progress, and maintaining clear communication.

  • By the end of this workshop, you will:

Be equipped with practical strategies and tools to contribute effectively to group assignments, manage challenges, and create outcomes that reflect the strengths of the entire team.
